2008 Unsung Hero Moses Santos

Last year, we honored Moses Santos from Fellsmere, Florida. In nominating Mr. Santos, Toni Remor said “I would like to nominate Moses because I worked with him from 1996 - 2004 and knew him to be an exemplary advocate for not only migrant farmworkers but all
patients who were in need of his services.  Moses volunteered his personal time on many occasions to help the migrants living and working in and around Fellsmere, Florida, a large agricultural community.

Since 1991, MCN has recognized those special healthcare workers who are so very dedicated to those laborers who may be sick or injured yet, work in our fields, construction sites or homes. These same workers are often forgotten when it comes to their health. Nominees are distinguished by their demonstrated dedication to migrant health. Qualifications may include innovation to service delivery or prevention strategies. Other attributes may include their leadership skills or contributions to the health of those who need it, but often do not get it. The Migrant Clinicians Network is in a unique position to look nationwide, to honor someone from your community.

How to Nominate Your Unsung Hero

The Unsung Hero will receive an all expenses paid trip to the Annual Farm Worker Health Conference in San Antonio, Texas, May 12-14 2009. MCN will present the award in front of a professional audience of clinical peers.

To nominate your hero please submit a simple paragraph describing the nominee and why they embody the characteristics of the “2009 Unsung Hero Award.” Email this paragraph to Jillian Hopewell, Migrant Clinicians Network, by April 1st, 2009.  If you have any questions you may call Jillian at (530) 345 4806.
