Philip J. Kroth, MD, MS is the director of biomedical informatics research, training and scholarship at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center and section chief for Clinical Informatics in the UNM Department of Internal Medicine, Translational Informatics Division. Dr. Kroth is also an associate professor in the UNM School of Medicine. Before coming to UNM in 2004, Dr. Kroth received a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1987, graduated medical school at the Medical College of Ohio in 1991 and completed a residency in internal medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1999. He completed a research fellowship in biomedical informatics at the Regenstrief Institute at the Indiana University Medical Center where he also earned an M.S. in clinical research in 2003. In addition to practicing as a board certified general internist, he directs a post-doctoral research fellowship in biomedical informatics. Dr. Kroth was elected to be the chair of the American Medical Informatics Association Academic Forum for 2015. Dr. Kroth’s areas of research focus include adapting clinical records for research, assessing the impact of health information technology on user stress and fatigue, and the promotion of open access publication.
