mcn five on friday

Each week, hundreds of new articles, blog posts, podcasts, and videos explore the worlds of migrants as they move around the world. Dozens focus specifically on the health needs of this growing and vulnerable population. Where do you get your migrant health news? Here at MCN, we rely on a big variety of sources -- but we pass along the ones we think are the most relevant for fellow migrant clinicians. Let us know what you read to keep up in the world of migrant health. Email Claire at chutkins-seda@migrantclinician.org with your own recommendations.

  1. Deliana, Director of International Projects, Research, and Development, saw the announcement that Austin, TX-based startup Aunt Bertha received a $5 million grant to continue its work in connecting users with social services, anywhere in the US. She found Aunt Bertha’s interface easy to use, and recommends it as a resource for clinicians.

  2. Ricardo, Health Network Manager found that clinicians can take the challenge to eliminate the stigma around TB at the Heartland National TB Center’s Stop the Stigma webpage.

  3. Amy, Director of Environmental and Occupational Health, recommends “The attributable annual health costs of U.S. occupational lead poisoning,” a new article in the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health. Spoiler alert: reducing allowable occupational lead limits produces annual societal benefits totaling in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

  4. Claire, Writer and Editor, forwarded on the National Geographic spread on Chronic Kidney Disease of Nontraditional Causes (CKDnT) -- interesting to see the issue highlighted in such a high-profile publication

  5. Ileana, Senior Advisor for Scientific and Strategic Planning, celebrated her colleagues’ publication of “Mending the Gaps: Community Health Workers in the Age of the Affordable Care Act,” in the Universal Journal of Public Health.

Have a safe and healthy weekend.
