mcn five on friday

Happy Friday! We’re looking forward to a quiet weekend as we round out another very full week here at Migrant Clinicians Network. Here are some resources and updates that we found useful and insightful -- hope you do, too.

  1. Jillian, Director of Education and Professional Development, recommends the National Eye Institute’s bulk eye health education resources.

  2. Candace forwarded on Moms’ Mental Health Matters, which offers resources on maternal mental health. Their materials are available in Spanish and are low-literacy.

  3. Theressa, Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator, took a break from her honeymoon to send us this new Texas Zika Communications Toolkit. (Thanks for the resource, but stop checking your email and get back to your vacation, Theressa! Looking forward to your return!)

  4. Del, Director of International Projects, Research, and Development, passed along the announcement of free HIV testing at participating Walgreen’s stores next week, in the lead-up to National HIV Testing Day on June 27th, co-sponsored by Greater Than AIDS.

  5. Paul, Financial Associate, sent this VICE article. The CARA Family Detention Pro Bono Project claims that 21 of 40 immigrants recently apprehended during immigration raids had valid asylum claims. "Anyone that studies migration will tell you that the least mobile group of people is going to be women with children, especially women with small children," said Laura Lichter from the CARA project:. "They don't leave unless things are really, really bad. And, of course, that's exactly who we started seeing showing up at the border in the summer of 2014."

Have a safe and healthy weekend.
