Delivering Babies… And Much More | 30 Days, 30 Clinicians

MNC Barb Boehler [Editor’s Note: Happy Birthday, Migrant Clinicians Network! To celebrate our 30th anniversary this month, we are highlighting one clinician each day who has been honored in 30 Clinicians Making a Difference, in which we profile the work of 30 diverse migrant clinicians from across the country and abroad.]

This month, Barb Boehler, CNM, will make her big screen debut, as one of the midwives featured on the new movie The Mama Sherpas. (Boehler is visible for a split second in the movie’s trailer, too!) The movie debuts on May 27th in Santa Monica, CA. Here’s a quick description from the debut announcement:

The Mama Sherpas, a feature-length documentary from Producer/Director Brigid Maher, follows nurse-midwives, the doctors they work with, and their patients to provide an intimate glimpse into what midwives can bring into the birthing process in the hospital system.”

Boehler’s determination and spirit are evident in her profile for 30 Clinicians Making a Difference. Her work in the last thirty years in the Northern California town of Davis, California, where she cares exclusively for low-income women at CommuniCare, has led to her recognition as a midwife making change in the hospital system in this country. As she notes in her profile, at least “poor babies in my little neck of the woods would be born with love and respect.” Read the full profile here.

Help us honor the work of Barb Boehler by sharing her profile. And, make sure to check out the profiles of all 30 clinicians at the 30 Clinicians Making a Difference webpage.
