The Mary Byron Project (MBP) is a national thought leader on domestic violence. The Roth Award specifically recognizes programs that address the needs of underserved populations.
Hombres Unidos Contra la Violencia Familiar empowers Latino migrant men to become advocates against sexual and intimate partner violence. As a primary prevention program, it is the first of its kind in the nation. Men learn together in community settings with peer facilitators about violence and healthy relationships. The supportive atmosphere allows men to open up and speak about issues seldom discussed publicly.
MCN works across the US and globally to provide support, technical assistance, and professional development to clinicians working on the frontlines of migration health. Hombres Unidos is one of several MCN initiatives that increase access to care and reduce disparities for migrant workers and other mobile underserved populations. It builds on 20 years of work to reduce sexual/intimate partner violence in the migrant community with promotor/community health worker training and community-based programs for women, families and men.
