FERNDALE, WA -- Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN) announced today a new partnership with the Washington Dental Services Foundation, to increase opportunities for underserved families in Washington state to learn about dental health needs and available treatments. Through a grant from the Washington Dental Services Foundation, MCN will train community health workers to better serve the oral health needs of three subpopulations in Washington state -- the elderly, diabetics, and pregnant women -- with an emphasis on the Latino community. The training aims to improve access to oral health care for these subpopulations and to increase their understanding of oral health care needs.
“Dental health is probably the largest unmet need of the populations that we serve, and access to care is difficult. This is a wonderful partnership between a private foundation headed by dentists, and MCN -- just the kind of collaboration we need,” said Jennie McLaurin, MD, MCN’s Specialist in Bioethics, Child and Migration Health. This project will result in strengthened linkages between the dental community and the underserved Latino community.
This is a new collaboration between MCN and the Washington Dental Services Foundation, which is a non-profit funded by Delta Dental of Washington, and is committed to lasting approaches to improving the oral, and overall health, of people in Washington.
