In our latest blog post, MCN talks with Dr. Jimmy Roberts, co-author of EPA's updated manual for healthcare providers on pesticide toxicology, and the diagnosis and treatment of pesticide exposures.
The Recognition and Management of Pesticide Poisonings, 6th Edition helps to take the guess work out of providing effective care for the pesticide exposed patient. The manual provides clinicians with the tools to conduct environmental and occupational exposure screenings for patients with suspected pesticide-related illnesses or injuries, to report pesticide exposures to appropriate agencies.
It also provides access to the most up-to-date pesticide information and resources to make the diagnosis and follow the proper course of treatment.
Dr. Ed Zuroweste, MCN's Chief Medical Officer, weighs in on the new text, describing it as imperative for the provision of high quality healthcare to farmworkers and their families.
Roberts and co-author J. Routt Reigart, MD have added new chapters on the Pyrethrin and Pyrethroid class of pesticides, insect repellents, and updated information on newer insecticides like neonicotinoids. In addition, the text includes updated references, and where relevant, new treatment recommendations.
