Continuing the Fight Against Cancer

CPRIT (Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas) awarded MCN $534,000 to conduct a state-wide program to improve cancer screening rates, entry into treatment and survivorship among underserved Texas Latino communities.

MCN will partner with Ventanillas de Salud and Migrant/Community Health Centers throughout Texas. Ventinaillas de Salud provide outreach at Mexican consulates and offer health education, free health screenings and referrals to local agencies. MCN will promote cancer education prevention through training of promotores de salud and resource provision and clinician education. When appropriate MCN will assist with continuity of care through CAN-track, MCN's innovative virtual patient navigation system developed for patients who move while under treatment.

LIVESTRONG (previously the Lance Armstrong Foundation) contracted with MCN to collaborate with five Ventanilla de Salud across the United States to train their promotores de salud on the most common physical, emotional and day-to-day concerns of cancer survivors. Trainings will be conducted in Miami, New York, San Francisco, Austin and San Antonio and the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
