Climate collapse, the border crisis, physician burnout: these are just a few of the topics we cover in our weekly Five on Friday piece. But there’s a growing undercurrent of community, statewide, national, and international actions that chip away at these massive concerns that have assumed seemingly intractable dimensions in recent years. But they rarely make headlines. Today, we introduce the “Weekly Win:” one of our five recommendations each week that celebrates one of the many positive steps we see in health justice each week. Candace shared a new JAMA article, “Association of Perceived Immigration Policy Vulnerability With Mental and Physical Health Among US-Born Latino Adolescents in California.” The researchers found that “reported anxiety statistically significantly increased after the 2016 presidential election, particularly among young people in the most vulnerable families.”

What is the economic cost of heat stress? Alma sent in a UN News piece on an ILO report: “Heat Stress Spike Predicted to Cost Global Economy $2.4 Trillion a Year.”

Jess recommended this July 23rd webinar on the climate crisis, “Scanning the Adaptation Field: Past, Present and Emerging Needs.”

Laz sent in a perspective piece from the Washington Post: “We Care for Refugee Children in Uganda. It’s Really Not That Hard to Do It With Decency.”
