Participant Evaluation

DESCRIPTION:
In recent years there has been increasing emphasis placed on the ability to demonstrate clinical quality through health outcomes throughout the health care sector. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) has been working to generate greater emphasis on health outcomes and demonstrate the value of care delivered by health centers funded under Health Center Program. However, the ability to measure the quality of care provided is greatly complicated when health centers are working with special populations whose life circumstances may make it difficult to incorporate them into a more traditional set of services.

This presentation will consist of a review of the Clinical Core Measures required by the BPHC related to cancer screening with particular emphasis on reaching the hardest to serve. The presenters will review the specific clinical core measures tied to the screening of both cervical cancer and the recently added colon cancer. The presentation will give detailed descriptions of the measures as well as methods of data collection using both paper charts and EHRs. The presentation will conclude with a “real life” case study from a health center who was struggling with their Cervical Cancer Screening Measure.

SPONSORED BY: Migrant Clinicians Network

OBJECTIVES:

  1. The participant will understand the details of the BPHC Cervical and Colon Cancer Clinical Measures and the rational for this requirement.
  2. The participant will be able to obtain accurate data on their health centers cancer screening measures in both paper medical records and EHR format.
  3. The participant will understand the process that a health center can employ to analyze the results of a cancer clinical measure and design a step wise method to achieve improvement.
