The Next Step: Integrating the Lessons from MAHC 1, A Collaboration Course for MAHC 1 Participants

Managing Ambulatory Health Care

The MAHC 1 course provides four full days of consistently excellent training for clinical leaders in federally-fundedhealth centers across the country. But what happens after the training is key: How do you integrate the lessonslearned? How do you stay engaged with your cohort?

“Next Step” Opportunity

Join MAHC 1 course instructors, Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN), NACHC, and your fellow participants who have taken the MAHC 1 course in the past two years, in a year-long community of learning and practice to assist medical directors and other clinical leaders in fully integrating the lessons of the MAHC 1 course while facilitating peer learning, expert consultation, and ongoing engagement.

Participants will engage in 8 monthly virtual conferences for an hour and a half. The course will be built on the highly successful “Project ECHO model” of case-based learning, peer engagement, and distance communication, to create rapid and significant change in practice in health centers. The ECHO medical director “clinics” will be structured around the key elements of the MAHC 1 course including: financial management, provider scheduling, compensation, leadership, employee motivation, clinical operations, conflict resolution, managing change, PCMH, and health centers in the world of public policy. Each month the conversation will build on the content learned at the MAHC 1 course and will allow participants to bring real-world management “cases” back to the MAHC 1 learning group to receive feedback from peers as well as the course faculty. Through this ongoing process, medical directors will significantly expand their skills and knowledge and will be much more successful at applying the knowledge gained from the MAHC 1 course to day-to-day leadership and management challenges at their own health centers. Each peer learning session will be accredited for continuing medical education.
